Why I prefer the new Camaro

This is considered blasphemy coming from a guy who has only owned Ford and openly boycotted the purchase of “new” GM products. This car appeals to me more than the Mustang in two ways. Design and packaging. I love the EcoBoost, I took a chance and drove that over the V8 I was also offered to test drive, but the engine layout makes no sense. Ford blew their chance to offer the 310 HP Eco 4 as a base engine to replace the 300 HP v6, offer a 340 HP V6, and then the full blown Coyote as the GT. Honestly, this makes more sense to my wallet. Maybe I’m greedy, but I like to believe if I’m paying more for something, it needs to get bigger, the 6,4,8 configuration is dumb. Good on GM for appealing to my senses. Plus the Camaro is a car that ages gracefully with minimal changes. this design has been seen since 2006 and over the time it’s gotten more athletic and fit. The Mustang grows stale after a few years and requires constant updates, yes they still look good, but I can buy any Camaro and the design still comes off as fresh.

Don’t take me wrong I still love the Mustang, I love that it’s becoming more of a Euro-American sports tourer, I love the new face, but will it last ? Maybe I should forgo both and just get a Challenger, that always looks good and I can carry adults in the back seat.

Why is everyone confused by the 6,4,8. A lot of cars have different engine ranges these days. For example there’s a 1 litre above the 1.6 litre Fiesta here, because turbo.

I’m not confused I would just rather have an Eco6 over the Eco4.

It would’ve been a nightmare fitting in a turbo 6 I’d imagine.

Ditto. Three engine options is sort of unusual in the US to begin with. The 6/4/8 order isn’t confusing, per se, it just seems greedy and excessive. And making the 6 an Ecoboost in the 350hp-range would definitely make sense.

I always assumed the base mustang was a six for cheaper maintenance for rental fleets.

For base to top I’ve never cared how many cylinders there are. It’s about the performance of the engine. Does it make sense for more cylinders and more power? Sure, but in this day and age where companies are slapping turbos onto everything I’ve stopped paying so much attention to the number of cylinders.

Styling is subjective but I thought the camaro got really stale towards the end and not any better now that they've basically made the same car on a new platform.

Have you seen the engine bay of a mustang lol you can fit anything I there below a v10.

Looks pretty tight to me. When you consider the V6 is as wide and barely shorter, then you have to fit in turbos, piping, intercooler etc. It’s possible but would require some expensive adjustments.

Though I don’t like the design on the new Mustang I will say it did make the previous gen look very stale and boring in comparison.

With the Camaro, I find that the 2010-2013 models really don’t look all that new but the 2014-2015 facelifted cars look much more fresh. With the release of the 2016 Camaro, the 2014-2015 models will still be able to shine as Chevy chose evolution over revolution in the design, much like Bentley has with the Continental which hasn't seen a major design change since it came out in 2003.

Hmm I was thinking of my friends 04 and thought the same of this new one. I see what you mean. The turbo 4 was the smarter choice for a chance at Eco tech. Hmm can I vouch for high powered NA v6 still ?

A higher powered V6 could make sense, but enhancing the performance of the existing one = $ whereas they already had the current engine line up ready to go pretty much. The way I see it the ecoboost replaces the V6 as the one below the v8 and the V6 remains in the line up for people who just want the car for it’s looks or for fleet use.

We all know everyone will compare like engines regardless of the hierarchy.

Fors ecoboost will probably outrun Chevys T4. Chevys V6 will outrun Fords V6 and the LT1 Camaro will outrun Fords 5.0

I cant wait to read the reviews.

So you prefer a car that no one has driven yet? Seems a bit premature

We basically know how it’s gonna drive. It’s based on the ATS chassis, which has been lauded with praise. It’s lighter than the outgoing car, and has more powerful engines throughout the range. Plus it has optional magnetic dampers that are in cars ranging from Corvettes to Ferraris.

The old 1LE currently beats the new Mustang performance wise and Chevy has stated that the new SS will match the old car.

“We basically know how it’s gonna drive. It’s based on the ATS chassis”

“based on”

No, you still have no idea. It will have different weight balance due to the v8, well most likely. That would en-tell different dampening rates front and rear. And then there is the transmission which will obviously have some change the feel of the car further.\

Just because a car is “based” on the same platform means next to shit in terms of handling.

For instance

this

was on the same platform as

this

They “basically” did drive the same

It will. If the weight of the two are within a few pounds of each other, which Im guessing they will. 455/455 Camaro should not have an issue outrunning a 435/400 Mustang.

Yes, because those are the only two factors in acceleration. But no.

Is the 3rd factor an acme rocket strapped to that “coyote”?

Kinja'd!!!

Lets see, the 5th gen and the new Mustang were pretty close.

So seeing as how the Camaro looses a couple hundred pounds, gains a significant amount of power, and a nice improvent in its suspension. How do you not think it will outrun the Mustang?

With all the shit stirring d-bags I’ve seen on o-lock I didn’t know there were “rules” on this board. I guess a lot of it just slips by though.
